Investment Opportunities

Among the investment opportunities in Ghana are the following:

  • Resource-based activities in agri-business, agro-processing, i.e. fish, fruit, vegetable, wood products, minerals processing, – gold, diamond and salt, export manufacturing and tourism.
  • Real Estate Development.
  • Oil exploration
  • General infrastructure: Agriculture and industrial estates, toll roads and highways, railways and ports, sea and air services, financial services, etc.
  • Development and operation of export processing zones.

Oil Exploration

In 2010, Ghana began the commercial exploration of oil, which was discovered in 2007. A consortium of companies is currently drilling in the Jubilee Fields, while exploration continues in other fields off the west coast of the country.

Public-Private Partnership (PPP)

As a growing economy, infrastructure is a major concern in the country. Government is keen to invest in the sector, which at the same time, seeks to device innovative ways of funding, including Build Own Operate and Transfer (BOOT) schemes.

Ghana’s Financial Services sector is also a source of abundant opportunity. Liberalized and competitive, it is already home to some top global and continental brands responding to favourable regulations, a growing economy and an increasingly sophisticated client base that is hungry for various financial services.

Housing, Agriculture, Mining, Manufacturing, Tourism and ICT products and services are other areas in which the country is primed for and keen to promote investment.

With a population of about 28,033,375 (2016 estimate), Ghana has a well-skilled force, willing and able to learn and adapt quickly. Its proximity to global markets provides unique advantages, while duty free access to the United States under the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) makes it a great place from which industries can operate. It is also a recognized gateway into the West African market of some 300 million people.
