Her Excellency Irene Maamah Mrs. is a Senior Foreign Service Officer and a Socio-Economist. She is currently Ghana’s Ambassador to Senegal with concurrent accreditation to the Republics of The Gambia, Cabo Verde and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. She has been serving in Dakar, Senegal since August 2014.
Her responsibilities include overall supervision of the work of all sections of the Mission: notably, political, consular and economic relations with the host Governments and their institutions, private organisations and international organisations and making periodic appraisal of Ghana’s overall relations with the countries of her accreditation .
Prior to serving in Senegal, the Ambassador served for five years as Deputy Head of Ghana’s High Commission in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria from 2008 -2013.
An experienced officer, who entered Ghana’s Civil Service in April 1983 as an Assistant Economic Planning Officer at the Ministry Of Finance And Economic Planning, through diligent and dedicated service in the International Relations Department, she rose through the ranks in various capacities to Chief Economic Planning Officer in 2000. In 2006 she was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs And Regional Integration where she headed the ECOWAS Bureau, by dint of her long experience in the area of Regional Integration.
Ambassador Irene Maamah holds a B.A (Sociology) from the University Of Ghana, an M.A (Econs) in Development Studies from the University of Manchester, UK and a Post- Gradute Diploma in Journalism and Communication, among others. She has served on various Boards of institutions and represented the Government of Ghana at several international fora in the course of her illustrous career.
Her Excellency Irene Maamah is married to Mr. Haruna Maamah an Agric Economist and Lawyer, and has two children. Her hobbies are swimming, music, yoga and football.
